- FirstLight is Tech Valley Communications' new, state-of-the-art fiber optic communications network that provides businesses with more bandwidth (higher speed) and greater reliability than copper, coax, or wireless communications networks.
- Tech Valley Communications is the first to offer businesses this type of service in the Tech Valley Region. This investment in the local technological infrastructure brings the region up to par with technology that is available in most major cities.
- For the first time, the Tech Valley Communications' FirstLight network enables small businesses access to fiber-based services, services formerly available only to larger companies.
- The fiber optic system provides businesses of all sizes, including large companies, with disaster recovery options that back up data at high speeds and ensure business continuity during a crisis.
- FirstLight provides multiple levels of high-speed voice and data transport and Internet access that can be matched to the requirements of a particular business.
- FirstLight offers guaranteed network reliability. This means that the telephone and data lines will provide measurable and guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) levels. QoS is critical for managing a dispersed data network with mission-critical business information.
- With FirstLight, a virtual LAN can be created with all the advantages of a Wide Area Network (WAN) minus network complexity and cost. This all-fiber network allows large data files to be transferred across a dispersed network as though it were a LAN.
- The design standard for FirstLight is Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON). The GPON concept was developed by the International Telecommunications Union, the international body that works with telecommunications service providers and equipment manufacturers to create interconnect, and equipment from a variety of manufacturers to interoperate.
- FirstLight is designed and built to the GPON standard delivering 1.2 Gigabits per second downstream and 624 Megabits per seconds upstream.
